Substitutions
- Spinach – Instead of kale, you can use spinach for an equally healthy beverage.
- Pears – Substitute pears for the apples. Ripe Bartlett or Seckel pears are the best because they are the sweetest.
Storage
Refrigerating:
- Use an Airtight Container. Transfer the juice to an airtight container or jar. This helps maintain freshness and prevents the juice from absorbing odors.
- Store in the Refrigerator. Keep the juice in the refrigerator. It’s best consumed within 24-48 hours to enjoy the maximum flavor and nutritional benefits. Freshly juiced beverages can lose nutrients and flavor over time.
Freezing:
- For Longer Storage. If you want to store the juice for a longer period, you can freeze it. Use freezer-safe containers or silicone ice cube trays for portioning.
- Leave Room for Expansion. When freezing, leave a little space at the top of the container to allow for expansion as the juice freezes.
- Thawing. To thaw, transfer the frozen juice to the refrigerator and allow it to defrost overnight. Shake or stir well before serving to recombine any separated ingredients.
Tips for Freshness:
- Minimize Air Exposure. To reduce oxidation and maintain freshness, try to minimize air exposure when storing the juice. An airtight container or jar is key.
- Rejuvenate with a Quick Shake. If the juice separates after refrigeration, give it a good shake or stir before serving to recombine the ingredients.
Avoid Extended Storage:
- Consume Quickly. While it’s tempting to make a large batch, juice is best enjoyed fresh. The flavor and nutritional content degrade over time, so try to consume it within a day or two for the best experience.
