Notes

    1. Honey is the secret ingredient that makes this sauce sweet and delicious. You can adjust the amount according to your taste preference. I have tried it with less, and it still tastes amazing. For some plant-based alternatives, you can substitute maple syrup, agave nectar, or brown sugar. Dissolve the brown sugar in the warm water before adding it to the other ingredients.
    2. If you don't have Italian seasoning, you can substitute ¼ each of dried oregano, dried marjoram, and dried basil.
    3. The cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes are optional ingredients. You can adjust the amount of heat to your taste or omit them altogether.
    4. We used regular table salt. Adjust the amount to your taste. Start with ½ teaspoon and adjust from there. If you are using sea salt, you will likely need to use more.
    5. Allowing the sauce to rest for at least 30 minutes is important for making sure that the flavors meld together. If you use the sauce immediately, the flavor will be quite weak and your results will suffer.
